“The Stag is one of the most majestic animals I've had the pleasure of spending time with and capturing on camera. The six prints from this series below, that I have carefully selected, are available for a limited print run of just twenty each, individually numbered and signed. I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed taking them.” - Mark Rowe

‘Reach’

‘Reach’

A landscape shot that shows the context in which this Red Deer Stag is located. Reaching up for a meal and perhaps even a new head dress for this seasons rut. A dreamy like feel, this shot is up there as one of my personal favourites from the series and recently featured in the centre pages of The Guardian newspaper.

‘High Tea’

‘High Tea’

To date, this is one of the most popular images I have had the pleasure of taking.

Featured in The Times, Daily Telegraphy, London’s Metro and Scotland’s paper The Scotsman. Awarded 2nd place in the Global photography competition by 500px from 45,000 images in the Technical Expert category, read more here…

I watched this Stag (who I named Gordon), for quite some time. I watched his behaviour and habits as he was sauntering around. During the Deer rutting season, Stags reach up high not only to feed but also to grab large branches to dress their antlers with. This makes him appear somewhat larger in stature against their rivals during this important mating time.

‘Hold’

‘Hold’ A stag spends a lot of time in the undergrowth, stopping every five minutes or so to conserve energy. Every now and then, you’ll see them pop their Antlers up. This a fantastic moment, caught just as the Stag looked directly at the lens.

‘Flora Lover’

‘Flora Lover’

One of my favourite images of the Stag. The rain had just stopped and created a layer of water droplets ready to fall from the leaves. This Stag wasted no time in trying to feed himself up with some refreshing leaves, whilst at the same time gently knocking some droplets off to complete the shot.

‘I know you’re there…’

‘I know you’re there…’

A really special part of wildlife photography is being able to come away at the end without disturbing the wildlife. Deer are extreemly aware of their surroundings, especially during the rut. Although I thought I was fairly successful in being stealthy, this shot shows to me that I didn’t quite succeed! Of course, I didn’t disturb the Stag at all, but he knew I was there and kept one eye on me…

‘My Wilderness’

‘My Wilderness’

My Final image of this series for limited print. ‘My Wilderness’ is a beautiful moment captured of this Stag entering his domain. The gentle, slow saunter of the UK’s largest mammal is what I wanted to capture here. a slight glance back with a heavy head carrying the fully grown antlers was all I needed to capture the deers eye and finish off this image.
